Tutorial 3: Creating Large Size Perforated Pattern
In this tutorial you are given step-by-step instructions on how to generate large size perforated metal project such as building fascia.
The perforated metal panel will be used to cover the total area of 30 feet wide and 20 feet high (9144mm wide X 6096mm high). The material will be aluminum with the standard sheet size of 8 feet wide and 4 feet high (2438mm wide X 1219mm high). The material thickness is 3.0mm.
The tutorial begins by defining the total number of aluminum sheets to be used for this project, and then calculates the effective area of perforation. After that, you are going to generate perforated pattern design based on the image document. The last step is to separate the perforated pattern design into individual perforated sheet as a layout to create CNC program for manufacturing.
This tutorial will use Image2Punch Pro 2.1 and CAD editing software such as Autocad or Progecad. If Image2Punch Genesis isn't already running, start it now. You can do this either by double clicking on the Image2Punch icon on your Windows desktop or by selecting the Image2Punch menu item on its folder from the Windows Start button.
1. Calculating material to constitute large façade building
To design a large perforated metal project for building facade is so interesting and challenging. From the illustration below, it is obvious that we are going to use 20 sheets with the size of 2438mm wide X 1219mm high. In this design we are assuming that there will be no space/gap between sheet in horizontal and in vertical direction.
